The Space

Located in a remodeled building featuring worn brick from its original 1940s structure, Hay Merchant presents a relaxed, authentic historical perspective. Reclaimed wood and metal is used throughout the establishment, as well as materials and objects sourced throughout the city to solidify an atmosphere reflective of its name (a nod to Mitchell Louis Westheimer, a successful hay merchant in the late 1800s). Tabletops were crafted from battered workshop benches and an East-facing patio is perfect for Texas evenings.

The 80 custom-built tap handles showcase each beer with an iconic “library card” slipped above each tap. In addition to the unique handles, a large hand-crafted wooden market board above the tap wall identifies each beer and is modeled after turn-of-the-century commodity boards found in markets where traders purchased and sold their goods.
